funland

Friday around 1pm my mother drove me to the airport in. Went through security without a hitch but I was flying in a small, crowded jet headed towards Atlanta so that I could switch planes. We had terrible turbulence. I'm not even sure the pilot knew what he was doing. The plane would actually start to drop and my stomach lurched. You know that feeling you get in elevators where the liquids in your stomach stay suspended for a split second as your body drops? It felt like that but about 10x worse. This happened during takeoff and continued for another 10 minutes and it made me really nervous so I just kept my eyes glued to a magazine and refused to look out the window. The flight was really short and then we had turbulence again during landing but it wasn't as bad as the takeoff. I arrived in Atlanta Hartsfield airport and just wandered around until I found my gate. My next flight wasn't for another two hours so I grabbed some chinese food and the cashier was a show off. He would ring things up and pull out your change incredibly fast, but he would fling coins behind him on accident. I don't think anyone was appreciative of his counting and cashier skills, and I was trying not to laugh when he messed up. Then I went to buy some coffee and the guy making my coffee was incredibly flirtatious yet still very nice. Although I always feel a little awkward when a complete stranger asks me questions like "is everyone else in your family just as pretty as you?"
I was still a little nervous to get on another plane after the ordeal on that tiny jet, but the next flight was much better. This was a much larger, nicer jet. The seats were comfortable there was plenty of leg room, there was free satellite tv, and wifi. "a-very-nice-a!" And the flight was particularly smooth. I was apprehensive when the lady who sat down next to me was carrying a newborn baby, but the woman was nice, one of the cutest baby's Ive ever seen, it hardly made a peep throughout the flight, and it was awake the whole time. We also had an extra seat in between us so it was fine. I didnt sleep the entire flight, I really don't think I can sleep anywhere but a bed. The plane landed around 9:30 SF time. My sister picked me up in baggage claim, I changed, and she took me a to my first weird event. It was called FUNLAND, and it was this tiny little place surrounded by a metal gate, with a clown at the entrance, a punk rock band playing, and men as old as 50, I'm guessing, walking around cladded in their studded belts, leather jackets and punk tshirts. ,
I met some of her friends who were very nice and pretty humorous. There was beer, put put golf, some strange yellow and red disk thing you could sit on that spun, and to top it all off, a vertical pedal powered carnival ride for two. If you chose the top seat, you had to climb up a ladder to sit on it. It looked extremely fun and dangerous which is a great combination, but Id had my share of thrill on the small jet and already had a couple beers in me so I opted not to try it. Here's the link if you need proof. I also don't have life insurance...
So almost two hours later we drove to my sisters house too have a few more beers out back and I met the first of her 3 roommates, Wesley, who is very nice and very tall.
Finally off to bed. The 4th was relaxing. Spent the day eating really good food with the neighbors who live right behind my sister, Darcy and Lauren, really nice couple. We feasted on apple sausage, strawberries, salad, Edemame beans, and more beer. Darcy would not stop making food and hardly sat down. She's the most hospitable person Ive ever come across. So we ventured over to their apartment and I spent the rest of the day in room full of lesbians, one gay guy, and then Ralph who has to be at least 80, smokes pot, and is up to date on modern pop culture. It was quite the site. We climbed up on the roof of the apartments to watch the fireworks, which quickly became more amusing then spectacular, because everyone was intoxicated and they were very far away and less then impressive then we'd hoped. Then it was back inside to play a game of cranium. Our team came so closed to winning, and my sister and I impressed everyone with our teamwork skills. Being festive is extremely tiresome, but that didn't stop us from waking up the next day and going down to the pier/tourist part of San Francisco to visit an old antique arcade with all these amazing really old arcade games and see the sea lions in the bay. So cute.
Yesterday was the most amazing day of all. We walked down to the Golden Gate Park and saw all the hippies that live in the park. Then we bought tickets to go see the Tutankhamen exhibit at a museum, which was a amazing. All the relics were amazing and the mummy coffin gave me chills. We ate lunch and then ventured back over to Haight street, where we walked into a huge music store called amoeba music and saw the Simon le bon, the lead singer of duran duran. My sister was the one who thought it might be him but wasn't sure, until we went home and googled it later and found out it really was him. We went into a vintage store and bought t-shirts. My sister found a david bowie one she liked and I as I was bring a led zeppelin shirt up to the counter, led zeppelin started playing on the radio, a sign that my purchace was favored by the rock gods. Now today I'm back at the house with nothing to do, resting my legs from the many miles of walking we've done the past 3 days, so I figured now would be a good time to share my adventures in SF so far. I don't leave until the 13th so I'm sure there will be many more to come.
